After a Sunday soiree with my sister’s family in Batangas City and some hearty wanton beef mami and hakaw on the side at David’s Tea House in Calamba, what else was there to do but sit through Vice Ganda’s birthday show while making myself up for the year’s anticipated beauty pageant on Channel 6.
Jubilation was at hand when our representative to the Miss Universe Pageant ARIELLA ARIDA got the last slot on the TOP 16. It really was supposed to be 15 but it didn’t hurt to add one more until she also swooped right through the TOP 5. There she was with the Latinas! The Latinas she ignorantly branded as unable to construct a decent English sentence without considering the fact that Spanish IS a universal language. But then that is all water under the bridge now as she paraded herself on a YELLOW GOWN. After the event; and named 3rd runner up, people were blaming her gown. They said it was too puke-y, kinda baduy or just merely not bagay. But really the gown was just fine, it had a regal silhouette about it and grabbed attention too. She could have been perfect with a wavy mane [her ultra-re-bonded hair looked too embalmed] and a fuller arm. She also exhibited extreme nervousness and while she tried to be eloquent in the question and answer portion, her reply did not satisfy a salient point on the unemployment clause. Perhaps next year or the next we shall finally win, but we should send a whole package : X FACTOR, X FACTOR and more X FACTOR.
This issue about ARIELLA ARIDA’s inadequacy with the spoken English language has gotten too muddled to recycle. But after having been bothered by the ghost of righteousness, I decided to dig deeper into the matter. This year’s Philippine representative to the Miss Universe beauty contest in Russia manifests indeed a slight grammatical glitch as exhibited in her interviews. But this is not really the meat of contention right now. When DJ Mo Twister bashed her racists slur in an interview with Karen Davila ; he suddenly took the flak and was condemned to some imaginable hell for being [allegedly] insensitive and outrightly mean. Of course Mo Twister took the matter in a rather moronic way saying that Arida’s comment “Especially, Latinas cannot even speak a sentence, right? I mean, a complete sentence, in English.” [in reply to Davila’s question regarding her communications skills which the host noticed to be ‘wonky’.] offended Latinas in general. Frankly? Frankly, had Mo Twister lambasted Arida for her ignorance about Spanish as one of the ten universal languages he would have stood on a firmer ground. Yes, I repeat : Spanish is the SECOND ranking language in the world [the first being Mandarin] , therefore they [Spanish speaking countries/people] do not worry about having to speak English. Sadly, Ariella is not only handicapped with her facility of the spoken English but is also an ignoramus by utilizing a simile that she is not totally sure [or aware] of. Only imbeciles would compare their insufficiency with other creatures. The Arida Blunder is deeper than what we all deem it to be!
Yes, the barbie doll-like grand winner of EatBulaga’s SuperSireyna pageant is also an actor. She stars in Edong Roy’s Cinemalaya2013 film ‘QUICK CHANGE’. Interesting enough, Francine Garcia who stands by the name ‘Kim Chui’ at first was eliminated but was recalled as a wildcard candidate and eventually won the crown! Elegant , queenly and perfectly poised , Francine tackled the whole show with a winner’s aura. Being held as the last candidate , her Q&A feat nailed her as a sure winner. She totally brought the whole house down with her reply to Isabel Daza‘s query:
Francine Garcia: Yes, because I think, that it doesn’t matter whether you’d be a Sireyna, a man or a woman. The mere fact that you’re a good law abiding citizen then you are worthy to serve your country and enter the military. Article 3 Section 1 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution states, that no man shall be deprived from his pursued of life, liberty, property and in perpetuity without due process of law. Thank you!

SAO PAULO – Leila Lopes from Angola was crowned Miss Universe Monday night, smoothly handling an interview question about what physical trait she would change if could, while wearing a strapless cream-colored gown.
