CINEMALAYA 2014 Auditions/Open Casting Call

HERE IT IS! The CASTING REQUIREMENTS of the much-awaited CINEMALAYA 2014 Auditions/ Open Casting Call for various roles for this year’s crop of wonderful full length films! 

DATE: March 1 and 2, 2014 (Sat-Sun)

TIME:
9:00 am — Registration (but can come at any time, first come, first serve)
10:00 am — Start of Audition
12:00 nn-1:00 pm — Lunch Break
around 6:00 pm (depends) — Cut-Off

VENUE: Multi-Purpose Hall, 4th floor of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), Roxas Blvd, Pasay City

“MARIQUINA” (New Breed)
Director: MILO SOGUECO

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:

1. IMELDA (child) — daughter of Leonor and Romeo, makulit, loves to run around and play, grade-school age

2. IMEDLA (teenager) — self-conscious, quiet, a bit sad, high-school age

3. MANG JUN – 50s, former shoemaker, now a tambay, loves to have a good time

4. MANG DANNY – 50s, former shoemaker, now a tambay

5. CORA – 40s to 50s yrs old, shoe sewer, knowledgeable about her field, has a flirty thing with Domeng

6. MICHAEL (young) — grade school age, 8-10 years old, friendly but a bit pilyo, has a soft spot for his classmate Imelda

7. MICHAEL (teenager) — Imelda’s good-looking classmate who Imelda is crushing on, high school age

8. JIMMY LO – 50s, astute businessman who “buys” purchase order slips

9. MAGDA — musem receptionist, warm and caring

10. KUYA REX – 50s, responsible, dutiful, kind-looking, a worker in Imelda’s garments factory

11. MONET – 20s-30s, go-getter, vivacious, supportive, Imelda’s righthand woman in the garments factory

“# Y (Hashtag Y)” (New Breed)
Director: GINO SANTOS

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:

1. MILES – male, 18-24 yrs old, good-looking, boy next door look, 5’7-5’9, speaks English fluently, conyotic, heavy acting

2. MARK – male, 21-26 yrs old, good-looking, model look, nice physique, 5’9 – 6’2 , speaks English fluently, conyotic, older brother of Miles

3. PING – male, 18-24 yrs old, good-looking, model look, nice physique, 5’9 – 6’2 , speaks English fluently, conyotic

4. LIA – female, 18-24 yrs old, good-looking, innocent looking, girl next door, petite, slim, fair skin

5. JANNA – female, 18-24 yrs old, good-looking, sticking features, not your girl next door, tall, slender, colored hair, sexy, heavy acting

6. ABBY – female, 26-31 yrs old, simple looking, brown skin, can speak proper English, from the province, black hair, petite, has a nice voice

7. SARAH – female, 19-24 yrs old, beautiful, tall, slender, can’t speak fluent English, but has an American twang, confident, morena

“DAYANG ASU (IN PAMPANGA, WE EAT DOGS)” (New Breed)
Director: Bor Ocampo

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:

1. TONTON – male, mid 20s to early 30s, lean body, moreno, with Kapampangan speaking lines

2. AHMED – male, mid 40s, lean body, with a beard, with Tausug lines

3. NADJOUA – female, 14-17 yrs old, 5’3”, fair-skinned, slim built, long black hair, innocent face, virginal and could cry on cue

4. SARG MANALO – male, 40s, tall, lean-bodied, has cropped hair

“KANA, THE DREAMWEAVER” (New Breed)
Director: Ida Anita del Mundo

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:

(Please note that dialogue will be translated into T’boli and shooting will be done on location in Mindanao.)

Female Leads:

1. KANA — 17-19 yrs old (actress can be in 20s), a beautiful young T’boli princess who discovers that she has been blessed with the gift of dreamweaving

2. BE LAMFEY — 80-90 yrs old (actress can be in 70s); the village elder and Kana’s grandmother. She is the one who raises Kana and teaches her how to weave

Female Supporting Roles:

1. FASAD — 20s, Kana’s lady-in-waiting
2. Young Kana — 7 yrs old
3. Kana’s Mother — 30s

Male Leads:

1. SAMILTA – male, 18-20 yrs old (actor can be in 20s); Kana’s love interest. He is not necessarily good looking, but charming.

2. LOBONG DITAN — 45-50 yrs old — the chieftain of the South Bank. He is strong and authoritative, but very fair in his judgment.

Male Supporting Roles:

1. NORTH CHIEFTAIN — 50s, Lobong Ditan’s brother and rival. He is quick tempered and is a military leader.

2. KAGIS — 20s, the son of the North Chieftain. He is to wed Kana to bring together the warring clans.

“SUNDALONG KANIN” (New Breed)
Director: Janice O’Hara and Denise O’Hara

1. NITOY – boy, 13 yrs old. Idol ang kuya na lumalaban sa gyera. Gusto niyang maging sundalo tulad ng kuya. He’s at an age where he wants to prove himself a man. Protective din si Nitoy sa nakababatang kapatid na si Benny na parating nakabuntot sa kanya. Matapang na bata at mabait, bagaman may kalikutan at katigasan ng ulo minsan.

2. BENNY – boy, 11 yrs old; ang nakababatang kapatid ni Nitoy. Tulad ni Nitoy, idol din niya ang kanilang kuya na sundalo. At nangarap na balang araw ay magiging sundalo rin siya at sasali sa gyera. Madalas siyang nakasunod kay Nitoy, parating kasali sa lahat ng laro at kapilyuhan. Being the youngest, siya ang baby ng barkada, bagay na kinaiinisan niya. Gusto niyang patunayan na binata na rin siya katulad ng kuya niya at ng mga kabarkada.

3. CARDING – boy, 13 yrs old, galing sa isa sa pinakamayamang pamilya sa bayan nila; anak ng vice-mayor. Idol ang amang si Kanor at gustong patunayan ang pagkalalake sa ama. Matapang lalo na sa harap ng ibang tao. Maporma, may pagkamayabang pero very loyal sa mga kaibigan. Siya ang unang-unang magtatanggol sa mga kaibigan.

4. BADONG – boy, 12 yrs old, tanging ang inang si Melay ang kasama. Siya ang nag-aalaga sa kanyang inang maysakit. Sa kanilang magkakaibigan, siya ang pinakamahirap. Safe parati mag-isip. May pagkaduwag, palibahasa ay priority parati ang inang maysakit. He dreads the thought of leaving his mother. Tanging ang mga kaibigan niya (Benny, Nitoy, at Carding) ang nagbibibgay sa kanya ng tapang. Mga kaibigan rin ang dahilan kung bakit siya kasamang napapatrobol.

5. ALICE – girl, 13 yrs old. Dalagitang apo ni Mang Ambo. Lumaki sa kanyang lolo kaya malapit dito. Masunurin at masipag. Crush ng bayan. She is a picture of innocence. Crush niya si Nitoy pero torpe si Nitoy at madalas ay nafu-frustrate minsan si Alice. Until the Japanese came. Isa si Alice sa magiging biktima ng gyera. (note: may rape scene, though hindi naman masyadong ipapakita… dadayain na lang)

6. DADO – boy, 14 yrs old. Anak ng janitor na si Tonio. Mahirap lamang ang kanilang pamilya. Lumaki sa ama at lola. Mayabang kahit na laki sa hirap. At galit na galit siya tuwing nakikita ang ama na inuutustusan lang ng tatay ni Carding. Kaya naman naging isa siyang malaking bully. Ang kanyang tropa ang madalas kaaway nina Nitoy, Benny, Carding at Badong.

“KASAL” (Directors Showcase)
Director: JOSELITO ALTAREJOS

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:

1. MARK (lead) — should look late 20s to early forties to play a discreet lawyer
2. JP (lead) — should look late 20s to early forties to play a discreet film instructor
3. Males and females (support) — should look late teens or early 20s to play film students

The filmmaker is open to any characters or personalities for both leads. But they should look good with character and should be articulate in English and Filipino. Lead Actors must be willing to do kissing / intimate scenes with same gender, and do partial nudity. But as per the filmmaker, no real hard and fast requirements. It all depends on how he sees the actors and how they would interpret the roles.

“DAGITAB” (SPARKS) (New Breed)
Director: GIANCARLO ABRAHAN

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:

1. JIMMY TOLENTINO (lead)
— late 40s / early 50s
— a Philippine Studies professor doing field research in the mountains to find a deity
— intensely academic and cold nature, but brooding in all his hang-ups with the past
— has been married for 25 years but without a child

2. ISSEY TOLENTINO (lead)
— 40s
— a poet and a Creative Writing professor
— young-hearted and extremely close to her students
— extremely beautiful, not hard to fall in love with
— has been married for 25 years but without a child

3. GAB (support)
— looks 17-18 yrs old
— just graduated from high school, entering UP as a freshman; a prodigy writer
— extremely intelligent but carefree

4. BULAN / LORENA (20s) – SUPPORT
— deity from Jimmy’s research who resembles his ex-girlfriend

5. ANGELO (20s) – SUPPORT
— Graduating creative writing student from UP and Gab’s summer workshop roommate
— Handsome and able-bodied
— Closet gay

6. LUNA (40s) – SUPPORT
— mother of Gab and close friend of Issey
