GERALD MADRID started out in films, even earning raves and a Gawad Urian Best Actor nomination for Jeffrey Jeturian’s landmark debut, Sana Pag-ibig Na. But when he started to receive mostly offers to bare his flesh, he cut back on his movie appearances. After venturing into politics, Gerald is back into acting and is most often seen on television series and specials. Yet, he misses the opportunity to flesh out interesting characters in full-length feature films. Then came CATTLEYA,AN OFW STORY. Offered to play the homebound husband of the overseas worker portrayed by Glaiza de Castro, Gerald grabbed at the chance to sink his teeth into a new full-length film role.
“There are not that many movies being done these days, compared to when I started in the industry,” says Gerald. “We all know that independent films are now gaining more supporters, both producers and audiences. I am only too happy to be given a chance to be part of an indie that promises to be a significant film,” he adds.
In CATTLEYA, AN OFW STORY, Gerald is Rodel, husband toGlaiza de Castro’s Lea. Their otherwise happy family life is turned upside down by the Ondoy tragedy, and Lea is forced to work in Hongkong as a domestic worker only to find herself becoming a drug mule against her will. In the meantime, Rodel is left to take care of their children and frustration over his fate begins to set in, triggering more conflict between the distanced couple. Joining Glaiza and Gerald in the cast are Tess Bomb, Lui Manansala, Paolo O’ Hara, Carlo Valenzuela and Dan Alvaro, with Jonalyn Viray making her feature film debut. Appearing in special roles are Dr. Antonio Pobre and Dr. Rommel Nonato of the Rotary Club of Makati San Miguel, which helped financed the film. CATTLEYA, AN OFW STORY is the maiden offering of One World Films Production International. Written by Wilson Araya, the film is directed by Joric P. Raquiza, KDPP, with Dennis N. Marasigan as Associate Director, Emie Academia as Supervising Producer and John Ramos as Producer.
CATTLEYA, AN OFW STORY is set to open in Metro Manila cinemas on February 5, 2014.
