pizap.com13708667264611Simply said, an idiom is an expression, word, or phrase that has a figurative meaning or the associative or connotative meaning.  It also paints the emotional structure of a culture and its use speaks more of a thousand explanation needed.  Filipinos have a rich vault filled with zany, serious, witty and totally absurd idiomatic expressions we use, we hear and keep to hearts on a daily basis.  From all over the net, I have collated a few for your perusal :

taingang kawali –(tagalog term) nagbibingi-bingihan, one who plays deaf (literal=wok-eared: uses metaphor of the handle of a wok)
takaw-tulog –(tagalog term) mahilig matulog, a lazy person who always wants to stay in bed
takipsilim — (tagalog term) paglubog ng araw, twilight
talusaling –(tagalog term) manipis ang balat, a very sensitive person
talusira –(tagalog term) madaling magbago, a person who easily changes
tatlo ang mata –(tagalog term) maraming nakikita, mapaghanap ng mali, a fault-finder, cynical person (literal=three-eyed person)
tawang-aso — nagmamayabang, nangmamaliit, a person who sneers
tulak ng bibig –(tagalog term) salita lamang, di tunay sa loob insincere words (literal=pushed-by-the-mouth)
utak-biya –(tagalog term) bobo, mahina ang ulo, stupid, brainless (literal=fish-brained)
utang na loob –(tagalog term) pasasalamat na hindi kayang bayaran ng ano pa man (as noun) debt of gratitude

Ahas na tulog – it means a person who is quiet but is a traitor

Babasaging kristal – it means a person (in most cases referring to a woman) who is dainty and with just a little carelessness or negligence might be ruined. I think, the ruination here pertains to the loss of virtue or reputation, or anything along that line

Kinain ng laho – Laho, I think means eclipse… so, I think this means a disappearing act, or something went missing and its whereabouts is unexplainable.

Laman ng lansangan – a person who is always on the streets or a person who considers the streets his home.

Lawit ng pusod – means the umbilical vein

Naglalagas ang araw sa tangay ng panahon ~ literally means passing of days while time passes by. I think this means wasting ones time dreaming or not acting on something, only to find out that a lot of time has passed and it’s too late.

Nilikha ang kasaysayan ~ means someone who creates history

Kapit sa patalim ~ literally means “clutching a knifeblade” but it really describes a person who do things out of desperation, like sell oneself or steal or kill to survive.

Nagsusunog ng kilay ~ yeah! It’s related to studies. It’s studying too much or studying hard

namamana sa dilim – literally means archery in the dark, so, it’s like doing something that you’re not familiar with

krus sa balikat – It’s the burden you carry.

amoy chico – When a person is drunk, that’s what he smells! xD

pinakain ng alikabok – You’re right… this is when you defeated your opponent hands down
