Janice Hung’s “MUZIKADEMY Goes LOVE SONG” : ALL FOR THE LOVE OF OPM!

A lunch soiree with a gracious lady is one rare event I always look forward to.  A two or more hour ride (depending on the traffic) from my ultra-suburban home suddenly becomes a breeze when I finally meet JANICE HUNG at Little Asia along Morato.  Fragile as she may seem with her reed-thin model form, Janice exude with the elegance and precision of her sport WUSHU, of which she is a champion of. She has won several medals for the country in international competitions which all came from her hardwork and training from the tender age of 7.  “ My parents are pure Chinese , but I am  totally a Filipino” was her reply when I asked her if she were from HongKong.   Frankly she looked very much like an HK movie star!  But then  she has made her rounds in the local showbiz circle having had appeared in  tv shows, an indie film and several tv commercials. “ I was featured in Ronin, KungFu Kids, and Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo on ABSCBN” , she beams and nodded when coaxed that she was in the Nescafe, Creamsilk, McDonald’s, Chevron, Accel, and the Kung Fu Panda ad campaign; she also had a role in the indie film “Bigshot”.  With all these exposures; you suddenly stop wondering why she looks  very familiar. But then I sensed that she was not very comfortable talking about herself and while she was edging into the real purpose of our meet I made one last ‘personal’ ditch  if she had any dream role she’d love to do; “Drama. A dramatic role will be very much welcomed!” was her reply, with which I volunteered that the throne for a Pinoy Action Queen is vacant.  The lady just smiled, but then if you are a Wushu champion, actress, model, singer and song writer the world becomes a vast horizon of possibilities!

Then, the real deal. Excited,  Janice suddenly springs up when asked about her current ‘affair’.  “My foundation (JHAS , which stands for Janice Hung Arts and Sports Foundation) is now on its third year ; this time we are launching ’MUZIKADEMY goes LOVE SONG – a Song Writing Competition and Music Camp’ … MUZIKADEMY is really our pioneer project which aims to search the whole country for out of school youth, high school and college students with musical talents  to become our scholars in a 2-day music camp with the core platform of building oppurnity to learn and share talent and ideas that will enrich lives through artistic expression and personal growth as well as develop the artistry and musicality of everyone and basically promote Original Pilipino Music!”

Furthermore, MUZIKADEMY offers an opportunity for self-discovery and learning.  Music educators, artists, and the youth interact and exchange views through the magic of lyrics, rhythm and symphony.  Easily, this can transform the vision into a sweet reality. Fifteen lucky participants have already been chosen to be part of this noble JHAS foundation project this year.

The two-day music camp which will be held at the FONTANA HOT SPRING LEISURE PARKS  on OCTOBER 5 and 6, 2012, will integrate varied activities geared to enhance each one’s realization of what may be a limitless possibility to become world class performers  in an intensive mode of moulding the talent’s musicality  and global marketability.  All these and more shall culminate in a grand concert on OCTOBER 6, 2012, 7pm at the JASMINE CONVENTION CENTER of the Fontana where the scholars will be performing with seasoned singers LOUGEE, TRICIA GARCIA, LANCE RAYMUNDO, ELAVER and KENYO. Participants all have the chance to win 100,000Php worth of prizes and cash!

MUZIKADEMY is co-presented by FONTANA HOT SPRINGS LEISURE PARKS and JIMEI GROUP.  It is supported by DENTAL FIRST, ACCEL, LG GOOD LIVING CORP., SHIMMIAN MANILA, LIVING THING FUTURE FOUNDATION, and SANJUN Music, Lights and Audio Center.

Thanks for the invite, SHANDII BACOLOD and LOUISE VIOLA!
