Unang-una nakakapagod ang mukha ni Cristy Fermin and her manner of conducting herself on the show. The rest of the hosts are mere palamuti. And this time, RUFFA GUTIERREZ resigns. Basahin ang report ni Alex Brosas:
ALEX BROSAS REPORTS : It was supposed to be a happy celebration but Ruffa Gutierrez’ birthday bash on “Paparazzi” turned into disaster which led her to resign from the show en pronto.
As part of her celebration, Ruffa was made to participate in the “Bulong ng Palad” segment where personal questions were whispered to her by her co-hosts Crity Fermin, Zoren Legaspi, Mariel Rodriguez and Mr. Fu. For this, she was made to just name anyone among Robin Padilla, Zoren Legazpi and Aga Muhlach.
Cristy Fermin was the first to whisper her question to Ruffa.
“Oh, my God, nakaka-shock naman. I’m sorry I don’t kiss and tell. One of them is not, eh. ‘Yung kay Mariel, hindi kasali,” Ruffa said.
Mariel also asked Ruffa a question to which the latter retorted, “Eh, di ‘yung sa ‘yo, si Robin. I’m so thankful he’s mabait na nga ngayon kasi he’s now older and wiser.”
When it was Mr. Fu’s turn, he first asked Ruffa to understand his situation.
“Dapat friends pa rin tayo. Dapat hindi mo seryosohin ang tanong,” Mr. Fu told Ruffa.
“Eto na ang tanong ko, choices: Aga, Zoren, Robin. Sino ang may pinakamalaking…
“Alam mo I’m not answering that. Ewan ko. Hindi ko sasagutin ‘yan,” Ruffa wailed.
Mariel interjected, “Okay lang sabihin mo na si Robin.”
Ruffa shot back, “Alam mo, Mariel, I really wouldn’t know.”
She then said, “Okay, I just would like to change the question.”
Zoren, unprepared with what question to ask, said, “Ano ba ang puwede? Eh, di how proud na lang? Eh, di mag-John Lloyd na lang tayo. Bakit nga ba hindi nasama si John Lloyd,” Zoren said.
Cristy offered an answer.
“Kasi si John Lloyd ipinanganak kailan lang naman at saka hindi naman ganoon kalalim ‘yon. Tama ba ako na hindi ganoon kalalim ‘yon?”
Zoren was seemingly forced to ask, “Sabi mo kay Nanay Cristy, ako, ‘di ba ‘yung…, if it’s me and John Lloyd, sige nga.”
Ruffa did not answer his question and thanked the TV execs and her sponsors instead.
But a few hours after, Ruffa vented her ire on the show.
“Hindi ako natutuwa sa birthday presentation ng Paparazzi para sa akin. Wala kayong kwenta at wala kayong respeto,” she tweeted.
This was followed by a barrage of tweets.
“The msg from Habitat For Humanity & Ms. Faith of Avon Philippines was heartwarming but what happened after that was a disgrace! #Paparazzi”
“Hindi nyo man lang naisip na nanonood ang mga anak ko! Yung head ng PROGRESS Gold Milk of Wyeth was at the studio, my friends were watching.”
“Binastos ako ng #Paparazzi on my birthday. I’m so sorry but THE BUZZ would never do this to me. EVER!”
And finally she dropped the bomb!
“From this day on, I will no longer be part of Paparazzi. I will never tolerate DISRESPECT in any form done to me, to my children or to my beloved viewers.”
She said that she refuses to be part of “trashy reporting that degrades people or shames others. #Paparazzi”
In the end, she’s hopeful that despite her resignation from the show she will still be able to find greener pastures.
“I know God will provide work for me in other ways so I can take care of my daughters.”
Ruffa’s mother, Annabelle Rama, also aired her displeasure over the incident via a series of tweets:
“Dapat tanggalin na yang mga…writers ng Paparazzi…akala nila natutuwa ang mga viewers sa mga kabastusan nila?
“Naubusan na ba kayo ng ideas…may mga batang nanunood sa inyo, katulad ng mga apo ko! Inaabangan nila ang bday celebration ng mommy nila…
“Di ba naman mga tanga, ang daming pambatang commercials, puro kalibugan ang topic? Stupid! idiot!” read some of her tweets, abridged here.
Before the ruckus, Ruffa was greeted by Claire Marie Algarme, Corporate Communication Manager of Habitat for Humanity.
“I think May pa lang sinabihan niya kami na magbe-birthday-build siya sa Habitat. It’s always exciting ‘pag may mga bagong volunteers kami sa site lalo na’t dinala niya ‘yung kanyang mga friends, 40 to 50 friends ni Ruffa ‘yung pumunta din. It’s a way din kasi of people celebrating the goodness of the things they’ve experienced in life especially yung mga families namin sa community. Sila talaga ‘yung nae-excite ‘pag meron kaming volunteers lalo na si Ruffa Gutierrez and her friends,” she said in a VTR interview.
She related that “Talagang dinumog yata kami sa site namin. It’s also a way of encouraging others na mag-volunteer. Nakakatulong po talaga ito sa organization since mas maraming nagiging intresado para maging bahagi rin ng Habitat for Humanity.”
Expressing her gratitude, Claire said, “Ruffa, thank you so much for spending your birthday with us. We’re very happy especially the families who were there in Payatas especially the kids. I know that it will be ripple effect and you’ve created a good chain of positive vibes. We hope that it will flourish. I am pretty sure that with the blessings that you’ve given us you’ll also be blessed by the Lord. You’ll also be rewarded for all the good things that you’ve done. Happy birthday, Ruffa.”
Faith Fernandez Aranton, Head of PR and Communication of Avon, stated why they chose Ruffa as their image model and spokesperson for their anti domestic violence advocacy.
“We’re looking for someone who women could truly look up to, could derive inspiration from. She’s very authentic. The Ruffa that you see on TV is the same, very interesting Ruffa that you see off-cam. You can derive a lot of interesting stories from her. The way she talks with our representatives, it could be the same Ruffa who will talk to our top, top executives, even the global representatives,” she said.
Faith also thanked Ruffa for being a source of inspiration for many women.
“Ruffa, happy birthday and from your AVON Philippines family. We continue to take pride in you as one of our ambassadors for beauty and style and of course as our celebrity spokesperson for the domestic violence crusade. Our hundreds of thousands of AVON representatives nationwide, they continue to look up to you, to admire you and really respect you as their icon. They know you and they believe you to be a truly empowered woman. Happy birthday and we wish you all the best.”
Also part of Ruffa’s celebration was her reading her daughter’s letter to her.
“Dear mom, thank you for all your love and support. I love you. More wishes, love and opportunities to come. Happy Mother’s Day. Love, Lorin,” she said.
Then she read Venice’s letter which said, “Dear mommy, happy birthday. I love you. I know sometimes I have a bad behavior and I don’t get awards. I’m sorry. Next time I promise that I would get an award. I love you mommy. P.S. My handwriting is kinda bad because I just woke up this morning.”
