Who is MARK SHANDII BACOLOD?


Mark Shandii Bacolod is a member of ABS-CBN’s Writers Circle Batch 1 – trained by the living legend Ricardo Lee and ABS-CBN Head writer-Director Dado Lumibao. He was a writer for Television for more than 3 years with shows like Mangarap Ka, Vietnam Rose, Entertainment Konek, Pinoy Big Brother Season 1 and the 1st Celebrity Edition.

Today, he is a full time Filmmaker. Shandii was named One of San Miguel Beer’s Freshest Filmmakers of 2006. In 2007, he directed “The Vizconde Massacre” episode of GMA-7’s Case Unclosed hosted by Kara David. In 2008, he directed Charlotte Dianco’s high-drama screenplay entitled, FIDEL, a semi-finalist in the Cinemalaya 2007.

His film PANAHON NA (The Time Is Now) wherein he worked as the Associate Director and Line Producer already premiered in Boston 3 years ago and had its Philippine Premiere at the 11th Cinemanila International Film Festival in 2009.

Aside from directing films, Shandii has taken on a number of roles in the filmmaking industry. His film credits include Aloy Adlawan’s SIGNOS (The Sign) as Assistant Director. Signos won Best Foreign Film in the Lone Star International Film Festival in Forthworth, Texas 2007 which also gave Ricky Davao the Best Supporting win.

He is the Production Manager of Sigrid Andrea Bernardo’s HAW ANG (Before Harvest), a digital film released in all SM Digital Cinemas. The said film was later on credited to Bong Ramos.

Shandii’s first job in the indie circuit was a Casting Director and eventually led him to becoming a part-time Actor. His TV appearances include Mangarap Ka, Ysabella and an Infomercial for MRT. Film Apperances include Mudraks, Roomboy and XENOA 2: CLASH OF THE BLOODS directed by Sean Lim. Xenoa is a sci-fi drama wherein Shandii worked as the Production Designer and Assistant Director.

He also served as Line Producer of the action-packed digital film 4 TO 5 directed by Dan and Brandon Relucio (‘Di Ingon Nato). When not making films, he is directing fashion shows, music videos and audio-visual presentations.

It is not surprising why his friends crowned him as the “Reyna ng Cinemalaya” (”Queen of Cinemalaya”). He has been working for at least one film for the CCP sponsored film festival since its inception in 2005. In the first year, he is one of the casts of Aloy Adlawan’s ROOMBOY wherein his good friend, Meryll Soriano won the Best Actress award.

The year after, he worked on two entries, Dado Lumibao’s IN DA RED KORNER as Production Manager and Assistant Director

and Arah Jell Badayos & Margaret Guzman’s MUDRAKS as Production Manager as well.

2007 saw him as Auraeus Solito’s Assistant Director of the multi-awarded PISAY (Philippine Science). The movie Pisay was Cinemalaya’s Best Production Design, Audience Choice Awardee and Best Direction. Pisay eventually won 8 Golden Screen Awards and 2 awards in the Star Awards for Movies. The movie later competed in the 14th Vesoul International Film Festival bagging the Grand Jury and Audience Choice Awards.

He was also part of STILL LIFE, a film by Katski Flores.

In 2008, Shandii worked on three films for Cinemalaya: as Assistant Director in Paul Morales’ CONCERTO; as Associate Producer and Assistant Director in Ellen Ongkeko-Marfil’s BOSES (Voices); and as 2nd Assistant Director in Chris Martinez’s 100.

That year, the film 100 won 5 major awards in the festival: Best Direction and Best Screenplay for Chris Martinez, Audience Choice, and Best Actress for Mylene Dizon and Best Supporting Actress for Eugene Domingo. 100 also won the Audience Choice Award at the Pusan International Film Festival of that year.

Boses bagged 5 major awards at the Golden Screen Awards in 2009 including Best Motion Picture – Drama and Concerto won Best Production Design and Best Adapted Screenplay.

For Cinemalaya 2009, Shandii is Assistant Director to Alvin Yapan’s ANG PANGGAGAHASA KAY FE (The Rapture of Fe). Fe bagged the Special Jury Prize award for Best Picture. Fe is Official Selection at the Chicago International Film Festival – After Dark Section and won the Golden Award for Best Digital Film at the Cairo International Film Festival.

Shandii is Associate Director of MAXIMUS & MINIMUS directed by award winning cinematographer – Nap Jamir II, official entry to the Cinema One Originals Film Festival in 2009. The film received 9 nominations and received the Best Actor Award.

MSG Production’s FLING directed by Han Salazar gave Shandii a major supporting role as an actor. He eventually took over as the production’s Publicist and PR Consultant.

His 2nd directorial film (BEN & SAM) was the Opening Film to the Queer Love Film Festival in 2010. Ben & Sam is his 2nd Full length Feature Film which participated in the Co-Production Meeting of the 11th Cinemanila International Film Festival headed by Ms. Sonja Heinen of the World Cinema Fund in Germany.

Shandii is also part of the upcoming film entitled BIKTIMA, directed by RD Alba. The movie was shot entirely in Bohol and stars Cesar Montano, Mercedes Cabral, Lloyd Samartino, Ricky Davao and 2006 Cinemalaya Best Actress – Angel Aquino. Shandii worked as their Production Manager.

In the film DETEKTIB, he served as the Production & Creative Consultant. The film was an Official Entry to the 1st Police Film Festival produced by the Philippine National Police.

Recent works include the award winning ‘DI NATATAPOS ANG GABI (The Night Infinite by Ato Bautista) as Producer,

Archie del Mundo’s TAKSIKAB as Associate Producer, the DepEd endorsed film called ISTIBADOR (Young Porter) as Executive Producer and SPONSOR, his 3rd full length directorial feature that premiered at the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival – Midnite Treats last year.

He is currently working on his newest Opus, The Break Up Trilogy, part one of which is ready for release. This is ANG PAKIRAMDAM NG PUSO KAPAG INIIWAN (The Beats Of The Abandoned Heart) – his dance film and 2nd short film (first short film was the psycho-drama called 5 MINUTES – Official Selection, 5th Titus Brandsma Indie Short Film Festival 2009).

Other works include SCHOOL HOUSE as 2nd Unit Director and KILOS KABATAAN The Movie (Associate Director), both projects were produced by the Municipality government of Taguig.

Shandii served as the Executive Producer of PENDONG, a comedy flick produced and directed by Sean Lim.

On the corporate side, Shandii worked as an in-house Assistant Director of an events company called Eventually for almost five years, as Fashion Stylist for Playboy Philippines from November 2010 to May 2012,

and as an Artist Manager for Bellhaus Entertainment for more than one year.

For 2012, Shandii works as the Managing Director & CEO of his own company: MSB TALENT MANAGEMENT and Project Manager of Undisputed Entertainment Production.
