Theater Actor Na, Professor Pa sa La Salle! And Now: ROLLZ ELAN MANINGAS, NEWLY-ELECTED PRESIDENT OF ROTARY CLUB CALOOCAN-SILANGAN 3800, ZONE 2

Kung napanood mo ang pelikulang “Pendong” na idinerehe ni Sean Lim and was shown more than a month ago, makikita mo run si Prof Rollz Elan Maningas in a slow-motion scene, with a very intriguing shot. Nabuhusan siya ng “ihi” in one very funny scene in that movie.
Years passed by, Rollz shifted more into academic excellence. History. After that, nag-masters din siya at nag-graduate ng M.A. History sa U.P. Diliman. At ngayon, si Rollz ay isa nang Professor sa De La Salle -CSB, FEU Manila atAMA Manila. At hindi diyan nagtatapos ang lahat.
Nagpaunlak si Rollz ng isang interbyu sa writer na ito in-line with his being the newly-elected President of Rotary Club Caloocan (Silangan) 3800, Zone 2. Very excited si Rollz and very ecstatic to fulfill his new role on this club. At naririto ang aming Q & A kay Rollz:
ROBERT SILVERIO (R.S.): As newly-elected President of Rotary Club Caloocan (Silangan), what are your functions and duties?
ROLLZ ELAN MANINGAS (R.E.M.): As President of this club, it is my duty to lead this club. And I want to perform it with flying colors. And of course, I am applying and practicing the “four-way-test” na simbolo na ng mga Rotarians. I will be performing all my duties here in the Rotary more than the duties to my own self! And this year, ang motto naming mga Rotarians ay-“Building Communities,Bridging Continents”. We will be actively participating together with all the other districts of Caloocan globally! Virgilio ‘Jun’ Farcon.
R.S.: The Rotary Club has maintained its good image and respect all throughout its existence. It’s such a great social club!
R.E.M.: Dito sa amin sa Rotary Club Caloocan, it’s definitely a non-drinking, non-smoking club. But sa amin, talagang non-smokers and non-drinkers. Aside from that, we coined ourselves-“United Caloocan Rotarians”, kasi ang goal namin ay to uplift each other, not to destroy each other. We have greater projects this year na naka-lineup na. And we want to encourage and help everybody, kasi yun ang gusto ni Global Governor Virgilio “Jun” Farcon, Jr. At first time ding mangyayari na magkakaroon ng joint-induction ang mga Rotarians ng Caloocan. Dati, club by club lang, pero this year, joint venture na ang walong clubs ng Rotary sa Caloocan. And one of the clubs is my Rotary Club Caloocan-Silangan. According pa nga kay Gov. The induction will happen on August 28.
R.S.: Can you tell us now some of the projects ng Rotary Caloocan?
R.E.M.: Aside from the previous existing projects na itutuloy ko pa rin ngayong ako na ang elected na Global President ng Rotary Caloocan,I will also add more on four avenues of service like forming a rotaract club as service partner, reviving interact club club of Benigno Aquino, Jr. Highschool in Bagong SSilang, anti-drug campaign, peace forum, and the likes- this year. You see, I want to make Rotary Club Caloocan this year sa leadership ko na bolder, better and simply the best! I want to make a solid IMPRINT na maganda ang pamumuno ko! Kaya salamat talaga muli kay Global Governor Virgilio “Jun”Farcon and the PDG’s who helped me out in my Rotary years: PDG Mac Hermoso, PDG Favie Enriquez, PDG Lina Aurelio, and PDG Mickey Ortigas.
Rotary Club of Caloocan have 15 active members. Lahat kami ay nagko-contribute. It’s a team effort. As a leader, gusto ko po’y may nagagawa rin ang mga miyembro ko. I believe in united effort kasi.
R.S.: And finally, my last question is this:Ano ba ang fulfillment mo sa pagiging isang Rotarian, Rollz?
R.E.M.: At the end of the day, after a long and tedious work at school, checking-out assignments of my students, paperworks and everything, I want to sleep peacefully knowing that I did something great to mankind. I want to extend my arms to others, help others.Kaya nga I am reaching-out, and being the President now of Rotary Club Caloocan gives me the chance to do that. It’s my payback time. In this way, maibalik ko man lang sa sambayanan ang mga natutunan ko at mga maiaalay ko para sa lahat. Maraming salamat.
R.S.: Very well said, Rollz.
R.E.M.: Thank you, sir Robert.
